Lighthouse Studios is currently seeking a talented and experienced 2D Animation Director to work on an exciting new show  "Little Ellen" for Warner Bros.! The 2D-animated series Little Ellen finds the talk-show host exploring imaginary lands, making new friends, making mistakes and will include musical numbers as well.


As a 2D Animation Director you will join our international crew working in a fast paced and vibrant environment while based in the beautiful medieval city of Kilkenny.  You will join the existing Animation team and contribute to the animation process. We look forward to working with you!


The Animation Director role is responsible for the total output of the animation department. The role requires in-depth knowledge of the animation process and Toon Boom. The Animation Director must be confident in their ability to oversee, manage, motivate and support a large team. They must be assured enough to identify and report any issues or potential delays early on in the process.

The Animation Director takes their brief from the Series Director.


Key responsibilities:


  • To study the animation style and Series Director’s vision and the objectives of the show and deliver the show as per the production schedule
  • Review the artwork and animatics ahead of animation and make recommendations to the Series Director and team for how to achieve each scene
  • Review and approve all animation delivered by the Animation Supervisor & Lead
  • Direct the overall animation look for the show based on the input of the Series Director
  • Follow direction given by the client on animation along with addressing any notes with the team, offering creative solutions to retakes requested by the client
  • Adhere to instructions of Series Director and Production Manager to meet creative standard and production deadlines
  • Identify and report any potential problems or delays as early as possible
  • Address any problems with the Animation Supervisors, Leads, Production Manager and Production Coordinator
  • Communicate progress of work to the Production Manager and Line Producer
  • Ensure quality and style of show is consistently achieved in animation work and that all notes/retakes are added
  • Support and mentor Animation Supervisors to achieve their weekly goals
  • Conduct the periodical review of the Animation Supervisors as indicated in their contract
  • Review messages on messaging systems and emails during working hours

Key requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge in Toonboom Harmony
  • Requires to have no less than 2-5 years’ experience as a 2D Animation Director
  • Strong understanding of traditional 2D animation principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to details and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Shotgun is considered a plus
